A Thanksgiving Cactus, scientific name Schlumbergera truncata, is a popular houseplant known for its vibrant colorful blooms which typically appear around late November, thus the name. This tropical cacti hail from the cloud forests of Brazil and are part of the Schlumbergera family. Despite their name, they are not desert dwellers but forest ones. They have flat segments which look like leaves but are actually segmented stems with soft teeth along their edges. The plant features beautiful tubular flowers that are available in a variety of colors including pink, red, orange, yellow and white. Unlike typical cacti most people think about, Thanksgiving Cactuses need regular watering and a humid environment to thrive.
